Hello, I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have recently inherited a Vintage Fortis Chronograph wrist watch. It is currently not working and I would like to bring it back to life and add it to my small collection. I have had a hard time finding information about this watch including model, history, value, etc. I had one watch repair vendor look at it and he quoted me $350 for refurbishing and a value of approximately $1500 and placed the date of manufacture around 1930. Does anybody know of an online wristwatch value guide or a reputable watch repair vendor in the metro-detroit area. I attached a picture any help appreciated, thank you

Welcome to WWF! That looks like a nice watch. I did some searching but didn't come up with anything that looked like that one. Have you tried contacting Fortis to see if they can provide you with some information? Not sure if they are still the same company they were when this watch was made but it might be worth a try. Value is hard to say unless we know more about it - the movement specs, case material, etc. I don't know of any repair people down your way, but I would say $350 for a chronograph service is by no means an unreasonable price. Hope this helps. Cheers, Al

I've seen a couple of vintage chronos at a local shop and one has a YG case (solid) and they wanted a few grand for it. Another was a Breitling Navitimer from the mid 50s (that looks very similar to this Fortis) that was going for $1500 or so. As Avalon said, more specs can better help determine value. BTW, welcome as well. It's a splendid looking piece.

Thanks for the information.
I got a reply back from Fortis customer service with no luck in answering any of my questions. I am going to try and talk with someone in a different department.
I had another service quoted at $750! I want it done right but that seems pretty steep. I'm going to have another shop look at it and go from there.

Welcome to the forum. You are wise to be selective in finding an horologist that will put this good looking heirloom back into condition. Me Likey! Please do let us know more about it.
