The X-33 was Omega's second of the four flight-certified watches NASA chose for use on its' manned space missions. You've read about it elsewhere in these pages before and it really is due for an update. However, should Omega really bother with a space watch? The Speedmaster Professional has already left Omega's mark and an indelible one at that on the conquest of space. These days when Casio and Timex, since the G-Shock and Ironman are both also flight-certified, are able to produce multifunctionals at a fraction of the cost of Omega, should not Bienne concentrate its' efforts on its' mechanical pieces and especially the cal 8500? It would be nice to see an Omega worn by astronauts of course but is it a necessity? Does it give the company any more street cred or prestige? Would it translate into higher sales, both of its' catalog items and of a new multifiunction watch? The X-33 wasn't exactly a strong seller though of course it has assumed a cult status especially since it was removed from the main catalog. What do you think? Would you consider a multifunctional, call it quartz if you wish, at what would be a few thousand dollars MSRP? Have a good week everyone Houston

I voted yes. Breitling has been making high end quartz watches for years and they just about have the market all to themselves.
Personally, I'd like to see an updated X-33, and I would like it to be thermocompensated super quartz like the Breitling models.

It's just marketing and I could care less what they do. I vote with my wallet!

Yes - but then the second hand market for the X-33 may drop out the bottom Features I'd like to see: - Thermo-compensated quartz - maybe re-charged by movement - and while on earth sych'd with atomic clocks? - oh and make the wrt at least 50m this time! Until they release it I guess I'll 'make-do' with the current X-33

Very nice picture Martyn Charged by movement sounds good since I read somewhere that the astronauts in the ISS have to take quite a lot of exercise on a daily basis. But for the general public I think they may have to tweak the price a bit to make it more realistic... for a quartz I mean. What do you think guys? Y'all have a nice day now Houston

I think that the price was very much in line with the Breitling products while offering one element that the "fly boys" can't touch: NASA seal of approval.

I'm in the "take it or leave it" category. If I wanted one, I would have already bought one. There is something intriguing about it, but just not enough to push me to buy one.

Nicely played Chip! I guess my crystal ball was right! Is it bad that I secretly list after the Z-33? I really want one even though I know I'd never wear it. Sent from my HTC One using proboards
