Hi Folks... I have friend who would like to get an ballpark opinion of a watch he has had for some time... He has no internet so I promised I would try to help by posting... I can't easily get a photo so I appologize for that but here is the description he gave... Gruen gold filled wrist watch, great condition, size 10 1/2 ligne, calibre 415, 17 jewels, on the face under the numeral 12 is a crest of the McCulloch (we think the chainsaw Co) goose flying inside the universe circle, It is engraved on the back as a sales award for 1958 Does this type of customized watch have special value? Your kind opinion and advice would be appreciated! Thanks, Mat

Hi and welcome to WWF. Value is a difficult thing but in general sales or service award watches do not hold any special value, unless the person or company is of some importance or has some other collectible factor. In fact some of these watches are less valuable.
For a typical gold filled Gruen of this vintage, condition is a big factor. But assuming the dial/hands are in good shape and the watch does not need servicing, I would say it would retail for something like $200 to $300.
If the dial is not in good shape, the hands are corroded, and the watch needs servicing, then it is less valuable as an item to sell. Of course sentimental value is another thing entirely.
Hope this helps. You may want to search completed eBay auctions to find a watch that is the same style and see what it sold for.
Cheers, Al
