I'm excited for this update and can assure you that if you've got any doubts, walk away from the deal. Someone else would be happy to trade the Daytona as aforementioned.
Your daughter is right, and I get the sense you're going to be happiest with the Submariner.
Albeit a rare piece, for trading or selling the GMT, will it be harder without the original bracelet? I'm assuming yes but due to the fact it is a special model so to speak some might be ok with this.
If I had to vote I would say go for the Submariner. If trading towards the Submariner would it be easier or better with the Daytona going towards it?

Oh yeah, I wouldn't wear an original bracelet from this era of watch either on a daily basis. They were made for this but with a piece of history on your wrist it can be difficult at times to not want to preserve it.
Fingers crossed that you get the desirable outcome here! Now if you had the choice between this GMT or a red Submariner, which would you pick?

Well certainly keep us posted! Always do what makes you happiest, and try find they piece you're going to enjoy for a long time.
The good news is, although you may not totally like the Daytona, many others do and this will work to your advantage trying to sell or trade it.
What bracelet or strap would you put on this GMT if you do end up getting it?

Very cool, Steve! So you've decided to trade the Daytona or just picking this one up in addition to?

This makes perfect sense, Steve! The Daytona is certainly a spacial watch, one I would definitely keep in the collection.
This is obviously a win-win situation as Roger points out. And like you've stated, this Daytona was purchased for a reason. The chronograph function can also be fun too operate and of course useful.

Haha yes, times sure have changed in that sense! Never expected things to do quickly move in the direction they did. I sort of want a 126610LV but can't justify the premium personally on a modern watch. The vintage pieces are worth it to have a piece of watch industry history on your wrist it at your disposal to enjoy accordingly. A neo-vintage piece I'm interested in is the 16600. However, my obsession with chronograph watches has me looking at some other brand options. I'll just have to live vicariously through you here! And over the years you've had your fair share of vintage Rolex watches. I’ve stopped flipping for many reasons, primarily because my daughter is pursuing her veterinary degree through a private university, costing me a fortune. Plus, building a new house has taken up the lion's share of funds, and I can’t justify buying more or having more than one watch. My father passed away a couple of years ago during Covid, and that sent me into a spiral of not buying or considering watches that important anymore. I think that made me aware that watches are not that the end all and other things sometimes take priority. I’ll be 59 years old next month, so I’ve got a good 20 years left to play the game; however, I would like to end up with something permanent on my wrist. I'm so sorry to hear that, may he rest in peace. Things such as this certainly do put it into perspective of what matters most in life. Happy to hear that your daughter is pursuing this, she's going to do well! And the new house is also fantastic! Honestly, less is more. Having fewer watches you truly enjoy to the fullest (or one) is better than 10,20,30+ where on some cases most don't get any wrist time or have the same level of appreciation. For you the best one watch solution would for sure be a good red Sub.

I can completely see why you would want to do this trade! This piece is significant among collectors. Although fun, my one issue with chronograph watches that have screw down pushers is the fact it can be inconvenient at times and even a barrier to use.
Having the added protection is wonderful for someone like me who is really into water sports. However, the watches in my collection with the same feature don't get as much wrist time now.
I seem to remember when you had this watch, or one similar to it anyway. The fact that you're looking to acquire something you've already owned speaks volumes of your appreciation for that that seemingly never went away.

Baco Noir Agreed, for me having a vintage piece that has been refinished allows me to establish my story with the piece and build character. Nicko It's a win-win situation for you really, as many are crazy about those. Not sure what made me suspect it was a Zenith, maybe the subdials. Get what you'll truly enjoy, life is short. For me I'm a huge fan of chronograph watches, so wouldn't sell it. However, I'm a massive fan of dive watches as well, so for the right piece it is worth considering based on preferences. I remember Pete talking about a "Toothpick test" before. Not sure if that applies here, but worth thoroughly looking into all aspects of the piece should you decide to trade it towards something else in the future.

That puts you in a great position with regards to the trade I think. Can't wait to see what you end up getting but I might have an idea.

Nice to see you still enjoying the vintage Rolex market, Steve! I'm certainly no expert here, but buy the seller.
Very likely the dial and hands have been replaced, if not it's remarkable how well kept they are. Any signs of over polishing? The acrylic crystal looks like it is in great shape, probably replaced too at some point unless new old stock. As a piece to wear and enjoy, for the right price range from a trustworthy dealer it might me worth considering.

Nicko Is that a Zenith Daytona? I don't know the models very well history wise.

Great pictures, Baco Noir ! I've never attended one of these events before. It must be so nice to see all the different watches. Some very cool ones there, indeed!
