That one is a beauty! And also unique because there is no date! Actually, it is a relative bargain here in Canada. At $47400CAD that equates to about $35000USD. Well, I will have to make a decision. I wore my GS Hi-Beat all day today, and to work. And this evening the beautiful ivory dial automatic model. My gut feeling, though, is that once I see the Globemaster IRL, that will be the GS up for sale. Although those GSs are beautiful, at the end of today I was wanting to wear my SM300 or Speedy.

And I know already it will be the model with the silver dial. The grey leather strap, which I did see on the carnet model, is beautiful. I think, though, it will be love at first sight when I finally get to see the bracelet. Likely, get that first and then the leather strap later. I am very thankful that they decided to put the date window at 6 o'clock instead of 3 o'clock. Very unobtrusive and doesn't upset the aesthetics of the dial.

That's my favorite model as well and I love it on the strap.

Nice one, Carl! Getting the model with the bracelet is always a good idea. It's much easier to get a strap afterwards in comparison to the bracelet. This is one of those watches though that I feel works much better on a strap over all.

At least I have this wrist shot, taken way back in the Spring, when the Boutique got the carnet models: Something so simple, yet so attractive. I do like the detail of the dial. Especially the notched ends of the markers, to match the angle of the piepan dial. Normally, with my OCD about date windows, this would bug me, as the background of the date window is different from the dial. However, it does match the white of the lumed markers and hands, and works real well with the overall look.

That's such a nice, clean dial. The date window certainly doesn't take anything away from the beauty of this piece. At least you already know it looks fantastic on your wrist! The applied star and Omega logo look really good.

When I was looking :a the Rolex SD4000 yesterday, the discussion with two of the sales associates turned to the Globemaster. As they are not an AD for Omega, they were quite interested to learn about the model. I mentioned that the fluted bezel is made of Tungsten Carbide. He said that it is one of the hardest materials to scratch, but also because of it's hardness it can be very brittle and easily shattered. I did some research, and this is a good article about Tungsten Carbide: www.tungstenringsco.com/blog/2012/07/why-do-tungsten-carbide-rings-break-or-shatter/The fact that it easily shatters is not a good selling point for me. The fact that it is scratch-proof really does very little good for me, as I want to wear the watch to work. If it gets banged against a piece of metal equipment, it would not make my life any easier. Not to be an alarmist, but I thought this is an interesting aspect. Also, if the watch is dropped on a cement or marble floor, the chances of it shattering are greater than even ceramic.

It's a good thing you were reminded of this before taking the plunge. I've been there before and know it's best to be ready for anything. I've had a watxh drop before, my past Fortis-B42 Cosmonaut. With Incabloc shock absorbers a trip to the ground often seems to result into a visit to a watchmaker. I'm sure the same can be siid for others but that was my personal expernce.
Chances are you may never knock the bezel hard enough to shatter it. Or a blow that hard would cause similar damage to thin sapphire. Either way it seems like a few bonus points for the Sea-Dweller, for now!

carl - I wouldn't sweat the tungsten carbide shattering too much. Like ceramic cases, yes it can shatter, but it'd take a lot of force (more like a drop) and more than likely a sharp point (rather than blunt) impact to break. If you think of those two factors being applied to a metal bezel, you're likely to have a deep gouge resulting, which means replacement by most WISs anyway.

Agreed. I see tungsten as a positive thing. Dings happen a lot more often than a drop.

Man, this waiting to see the Globemaster is getting to be a bit ridiculous. I know Pete saw one at the Boutique in Melbourne, and someone on another forum saw one in New York.
Just wondering if anyone else on this forum has seen one yet? Other than the Carnet models last year, I mean.

I am anxious to some one IRL though - the pics are gorgeous.

Seems to be taking a while but I hope every AD / Boutique has them soon. Seeing on on my next visit would be nice but we'll find out.

Finally! Called the Boutique, and they are getting the Globemaster this week, so at last I get to see it.
