I'm not sure that would happen but I suppose its possible because the product is not sold here and is a Japan only model, so someone with a stick in their arse might decide to confiscate it as illegally imported goods. Did Katsu-san actually say confiscation by Customs was a possibility? He warned of the possiabilty, most likely it wouldn't happen, but it is possible. You just have to weigh the risk, also paying custom tax will bring the price up much higher. Whenever you import an item not for sale in the US you run a chance of it being confiscated by customs.

You just have to weigh the risk, also paying custom tax will bring the price up much higher. Whenever you import an item not for sale in the US you run a chance of it being confiscated by customs. Even if that's true a couple of things would have to happen: (1) They would have to actually open the package and inspect it. I've ordered 5 watches from Asia that are not "offcially" imported into the US (2 Alphas from China, 1 Orient Star from Japan, 1 Orient from Japan, and 1 Sandoz from Signapore) and in each case the packages were not opened for inspection by Customs. And (2), in the case of a Grand Seiko the inspector would have to know what he was looking at. Unless he knows what a Grand Seiko is he's likely to be thinking "Oh, a Seiko watch" then look at the declared value and wonder why you'd paid such a high price for it. With Katsu, he always put the correct value on the Customs declaration of the watches I ordered from him. If he does that with a GS, you will have to pay a duty on the item, but it wouldn't amount to enough, IMO, to forego buying the watch.

Well thats just it marking it as a new watch with a price tag of about $2,500 brings attention. Its a litle diffrent then getting a Seiko 5 from Japan which I've done numerous times with no problems. Like I said I really want that watch and will buy it someday but I would really perfer to purchase it here instead. I'm gonna wait a while and take a good look at these new GS's that may hit our market.

I heard back from Higuchi. He won't have the prices until Seiko releases these watches to dealers on Nov 10.
